<image:title>About River - I’ve been tutoring primary and high school students since I was in high school myself. My first student was a friend of mine who was struggling with English Language in Year 11. Since then, I’ve continued tutoring privately, for schools, and tutoring centres, while completing further studies. In 2017, I completed my Bachelor of Science at the University of Melbourne, where I majored in Genetics with a minor in Biochemistry. I then went on to complete a Master of Science also at the University of Melbourne in the Gallego Romero Lab, where I used human stem cells to study how humans have genetically adapted to living at high altitudes. After graduating my Masters in 2019, I started working as a research assistant at the Wells Lab at the University of Melbourne, and also worked as a mentor for a team of undergraduates competing in iGEM, an international synthetic biology competition. After working with such brilliant students, I decided I wanted to become a teacher so I can work with young people full-time. This year I started working as a maths and science teacher at Drouin Secondary College, through a program called Teach For Australia. This two year program is allowing me to earn a Master of Teaching while giving me the opportunity to work, learn and develop my skills as a teacher in the education industry at the same time. I’m extremely passionate about education, and I believe that all students learn in their own way. Having individual attention catering to the student’s needs allows them to achieve incredible results.</image:title>

<image:title>About Montanna - I first started tutoring primary school students when I was completing my VCE studies. Helping kids with their learning is important to me, as it wasn’t something that I had access to when I was in school. I would love nothing more than to know that I can provide the help and support that I wish I had back then. After completing VCE, I headed straight to university and completed my Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Sciences at RMIT University in 2017. I then went on to complete my Honours Degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences through an industry 40-week placement at the Victorian Institute of Forensic Medicine. This part of my tertiary education provided me with real-life workplace experience and the professional skills necessary to succeed in a career in science. I then went on to be a Forensic Toxicologist for the next 3 and a half years serving the State Coroner and Victoria Police. More recently, I decided to pursue a career closer to what I studied in university, working as a Bioanalytical Chemist developing and performing pharmacokinetic testing for phase I clinical trials. It is a really rewarding opportunity to be at the fore-front of the research and development of new medicinal therapeutics. There is a lot more to science than just sitting in a lab. Communication in science is the upmost important aspect of this field – without it, science is useless. The communication skills that I have acquired as a scientist will continue to serve me for the rest of my career. I have had the opportunity to travel interstate to give an oral presentation at a conference, as well as holding a large responsibility in the documentation side of being a scientist. I have many years of experience working with medico-legal documents as well as reviewing and writing procedural polices and in depth scientific instructional documents – many skills of which I took with me from VCE English language. Being a real-life scientist never seemed to be a reality within reach when I was in school. But I was fortunate enough to have the right people in my life to become a successful woman in science. Being able to provide support and pass on skills and knowledge to students now means everything to me. I believe every young person has an unlimited potential – they just need the right support and guidance to overcome the hardships they are facing today.</image:title>

<image:title>About Caitlin - Hello, I'm Caitlin. I am a qualified Secondary English teacher, having obtained a Master of Teaching from Monash university in 2021. Prior to this, I studied a Bachelor of Arts in Media and Communications and English at The University of Melbourne. I have also worked in communication and development in a variety of school settings. I started tutoring when I was still in secondary school, at the Sudanese Homework Club as part of the Brotherhood of St Laurence. Since then, I have privately tutored numerous students in the areas of English, humanities and media. My favourite part of private tuition is fostering relationships with my students and helping them to achieve their own definition of success. I am excited to be on the Kano Tuition team.</image:title>
